Those of you who know me know my filter is more of an overworked, straining dam that at any time can overflow into enthusiastic tangents, or suddenly burst, entrapping the unwary in a prolonged monologue on anything from the residual plenary legislative power of the States, to the future of telecommunications or space exploration.
Consider this blog my attempt to install a slipway to allow a more controlled outlet for my flood of takes that don’t involve semi-regular social faux pas. If you’re interested in what I have to say, feel free to come along for the ride by hitting the subscribe button.
In terms of content then The Foghorn will be varied, although the one thing that I will endeavour to avoid is punditry of all kinds. Firstly there’s no shortage of it already - if you want political hot-takes all you need to do is open your social media network of choice. Secondly, I am a researcher in the Australian Parliamentary Library which imposes certain obligations expected of an apolitical research service providing impartial advice to Parliament. So there will be no hot takes regarding Australian politics here.
Instead this blog will focus on making sense of an increasingly obscured world. Obscured not by a lack of data, but a flood of it, a deluge of information that makes it difficult to separate signals from the noise, to distinguish trends from narratives, and to find pearls of hope in a miasma of relentless pessimism. The challenge of the 21st century is not darkness, but fog- fog that we hope to help cut through with this blog. The alternative interpretation of the title is of course me screaming into the void of the internet, which frankly also works.
Stay tuned for posts! In the meantime, feel free to tell others about it!
